James Hill

Sector Focus: Digital Health

James joined Grand Ventures in 2023 with over ten years of experience in venture capital investing in healthcare information technology, enterprise software and financial technology. In his previous role as Vice President of Venture Capital and Private Equity at First Trust Capital Partners, the private investment arm of a $200 billion AUM asset manager with over 90 portfolio companies, James led a range of healthcare and fintech investments, including Phynd Technologies, SteadyMD, TouchCare, ClinOne, ProofPilot, Circuit Clinical, Korio and Flexwise Health.

From 2013 to 2019, James worked as Vice President at Edison Partners, which targets high-growth financial technology, healthcare IT and vertical SaaS companies located outside of Silicon Valley. He managed the digital health and fintech investment pipelines, led the Edison Director Network, helped close more than ten growth-stage investments, and served as a Board Director for multiple healthcare portfolio companies. Some of his investments included Solovis (acquired by Nasdaq), Clinverse (acquired by BioClinica), BlueMedora (acquired by VMare), ItemMaster (now Syndigo and acquired by Gladson), Predata (acquired by FiscalNote), PurpleLab, Signet Accel, Inc., and Virtual Health.

James earned an MBA in finance JD focused on corporate law from Michigan State University. He also holds a degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
